Adventuring Into the Unknown

“Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” –
NLT Matthew 28:16 – 20

In Matthew 28:16-20, we see Jesus giving his disciples a powerful mission: to go out and make disciples of all nations. The key word here is “therefore.” It connects two important ideas—Jesus’ divine authority and our call to action. Because Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, we can move forward with confidence and purpose.

The word “go” isn’t just a suggestion. It’s a call to adventure, to take a step into the unknown, much like how Moses was called to confront Pharaoh and Abraham was called to journey to an unknown land. Both faced uncertainty, but they had a promise: God’s presence. God told Moses, “I will be with you,” and Abraham, “I will show you and bless you.”

When we’re called into new and challenging situations, we can feel the same way. But we don’t go alone. Jesus promises, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” His authority backs us up, and his presence goes with us.

This message is especially encouraging for those leading or serving others—whether in ministry or in daily life. There are always unknowns, but that’s part of the adventure! We’re not required to have all the answers. Our job is simply to “go” and love, planting and watering seeds, and trusting that God will do the rest. Don’t forget, the Holy Spirit, as described in John 14, is there to guide and empower us along the way.

So if you’re feeling unsure about the adventure ahead, remember: you don’t have to know everything. Just take that first step into the unknown and “go” with the confidence that you are never alone.

“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
